BLAGOEVGRAD SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

BLAGOEVGRAD SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

The Blagoevgrad Short Film Festival (BSFF) is a new cultural event dedicated to short films, with a special focus on works created using artificial intelligence.

The festival's program features curated screenings, workshops, masterclasses, and interactive discussions that foster dialogue, knowledge exchange, and inspiration. One of BSFF's primary goals is to build a community—comprising both creators and audiences—that shares a passion for cinema and seeks new ways to tell compelling stories.

More than just a film festival, BSFF serves as a meeting ground for diverse individuals, ideas, and aesthetics. It brings together emerging and established filmmakers from Bulgaria and around the world, offering them a platform to showcase their unique perspectives and innovative artistic styles.

Our vision is for BSFF to become an annual platform for unconventional, provocative, and inspiring voices in contemporary short filmmaking. We aim to facilitate the transition of filmmakers from educational institutions to the professional arena, nurturing the next generation of cinematic talent.

What Makes the Blagoevgrad Short Film Festival Unique?

1. Dedicated AI Film Category

BSFF is the first festival in Bulgaria to introduce a dedicated category for films created using artificial intelligence. As the film industry rapidly evolves, we aim to document and celebrate these pioneering steps in AI-driven filmmaking. This category will showcase and award creators who harness AI tools in their storytelling.

2. Creator-Centric Approach

Unlike many festivals, BSFF allows filmmakers to submit multiple works across different categories. This approach enables us to build a comprehensive portfolio for each creator, highlighting their themes, styles, and messages.

3. A New Cultural Role for Blagoevgrad

As the first event of its kind in the region, BSFF positions Blagoevgrad as a cultural hub on the map of contemporary European cinema. The city's vibrant cultural scene, including theater festivals, film screenings, and folk celebrations, provides a rich backdrop for the festival .

4. Unconventional and Memorable Events

BSFF extends beyond traditional cinema halls. We are preparing surprising venues for parties, musical events, and demonstrations related to filmmaking—including stunts, pyrotechnic effects, and specialized workshops offering practical know-how.
